Trending Quotable Statements of 2013 in the Philippines

The year 2013 has been a roller coaster for the Philippines. We have celebrated for winning various beauty pageants, we have protested against the corrupt politicians who have taken advantage over their PDAFs and we have helped those who were affected by the strongest typhoon ever recorded in the world history. A lot of things happened to our country but we remain strong and hopeful for our dear Philippines.

The Social Media has played a vital role and a witness to the events that transpired in the Philippines over the course of the year. In fact, I learned first the important news and trending topics from Social Media than the television and other form of communications. So as far as my memory is concerned, I am listing here the quotable quotes that have trended in social medias as per the Philippine news and current events is concerned. Let's take a look at some of these famous quotes in political, business and entertainment industry as a way of recalling the important events for this year 2013.

1. "You Don't Do That To Me" - Willie Revillame

A what seems to be a joke has turned into a misunderstanding between Willie Revillame and Ethel Booba as the later had purportedly accused Revillame of disrespecting her in front of the camera during her performance in one of the segments of the defunct show Wowowillie. As a retaliation of the said accusation, the said host had expressed his sentiments over Ethel's reaction on national television. Apparently, Revillame doesn't like the way Ethel approached him backstage, hence the famous line "YOU DON'T DO THAT TO ME".

2. "'Di Ko Po Alam" - Janet Lim Napoles

I think the biggest news when it comes to the political arena is all about the PDAF scam. Some whistle-blowers have revealed the horror story behind PDAF and the name Janet Lim Napoles has resounded as the mastermind of all these PDAF scam brouhahas. However, the senate failed to corner Napoles to reveal the senators involved in the scam because she kept on answering "'DI KO PO ALAM" to almost all questions. The right to self incrimination saved Napoles from a disastrous situation, but the game is not yet over and we believe that justice will be served soon.

3. "I Can Buy You, Your Friends and this Club" - Anne Curtis

The famous statement that followed by a slap to the handsome face of John Lloyd Cruz. The tipsy Anne Curtis had turned from sweet and charming into a fiery dragon when John Lloyd Cruz and his friends tried to play prank with her in the club.

4. "Don't You Know Me?" - Mayor Junjun Binay

The most recent controversy in the political arena so far is the "Dasma Incident". Apparently, Mayor Junjun Binay and his team who were in a 4-car convoy attempted to exit in one of the gates of the Dasmarinas Village. However, as per the village's rule, the exit gate is solely for entrance use only after 10 pm as part of the security measure for the residence of the said village. The security guards were just doing their job not allowing anybody to pass through the gate, but Mayor Junjun stepped out and spoke to the village guards. The "Don't You Know Me?" statement of Binay has suddenly trended online because it sounds authoritative. He then got the security guards arrested just to let them know who he really is.

5. "Bahala Kayo sa Buhay Nyo" - Sec. Mar Roxas

The statement that made Sec. Mar Roxas looks stupid. A video went viral showing how Roxas talked to the local government of Tacloban after Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the city. The issue is all about the City Mayor being a Romualdez and the President being Aquino. As a backgrounder, the Romualdez's and the Aquino's are in a political war. Then in the video, Roxas mentioned the line "Bahala Kayo sa Buhay Nyo" referring to the National Government could not longer help them anymore. Roxas defended himself and said that the video is just a spliced video, it does not show the whole conversation that could have explained what has actually transpired during the meeting.

Words are very powerful. Once you said something, it can't be undone and it can even mark a permanent damage. I think what we can learn from this is that we should be careful with what we are saying because every word we say will ricochet. But thanks for this statements, they make 2013 memorable for the Philippines.

The Walking Dead Season 4: Questions Left Unanswered

INTENSE is an understatement. The mid season finale of The Walking Dead Season 4 is so far the most intense scene since the show has ever started. I was really glued on this episode because I don't want to miss a single scene. And just when the momentum of the show is about to hit, it ended with so many questions left unanswered. The bad news, we will have to wait until February 9, 2014 to find out the answers to these questions.

For those of you who are waiting for the next episode of The Walking Dead, here are the key points we need to find out:

1. Is the Governor finally dead?

When Lilly pulled on the trigger to the suffering Governor, did she really hit him? Remember that Lilly is a nurse, she can help the Governor survive. Eventhough we saw the Governor almost on the edge of dead, there is still a possibility that he is alive.

2. How about Baby Judith? Is she dead too?

I think there is a big mystery behind the empty and bloody stroller. It does not necessarily mean that the baby has been attacked by a walker. Maybe somebody deeply injured, like Michonne or Beth, got the baby out of that stroller, hence the blood.

3. Who is the psychopath?

The very last scene before the attack of the Governor in the presence is a hint that somebody is not on his/her right mind. Who fed the walkers with dead rats? Who is the psychopath?

4.What will happen to each character of the show?

After the chaos at the prison, each of them venture their own journey outside the prison. What will happen now? Can each of them survive alone in the wood?

5. What's next with the Father-son tandem of Rick and Carl?

Probably this is the biggest question now. Now that both of them are suffering emotionally and physically, what will they do next? What adventures are waiting ahead for them.

While we are waiting for February to come for The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 9, let's just content ourselves with this short promo.

The 9 Superstitious Beliefs Associated With Wakes Based from the Movie PAGPAG- Siyam na Buhay

Filipino are very superstitious when it comes to death and funerals. I have already shared before the Filipino Folk Beliefs on Death and Funeral (Based on the Movie "Deds na si Lolo"). Here is another upcoming movie that tackles superstitious beliefs associated with wake. The movie is entitled PAGPAG- Siyam na Buhay topbilled by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. It is a story of group of friends who accidentally visited a funeral and violated the 9 Forbidden things to do during a wake. As a consequence for disrespecting these ancient beliefs, each of them will suffer a sinister death.

What are these 9 beliefs? They are the following:

1. It is forbidden to go directly home from a funeral.

2. It is forbidden to sweep floors in a wake.

3. It is forbidden for a teardrop to fall on the dead's coffin.

4. It is forbidden to use mirror in a wake.

5. It is forbidden to bring home food from the wake.

6. It is forbidden to go to a funeral with a wound.

7. It is forbidden to wipe tears from the dead's casket.

8. It is forbidden to spend money intended for the dead.

9. It is forbidden to accompany visitors to the door as they leave.

Watch the official movie trailer of PAGPAG- Siyam na Buhay.

Video Compilation of Trumpet-Like Sounds From the Sky

Over the past few months, a lot of people have reported about the mysterious sound from the sky. It is somehow a sound of a trumpet. The sound is so eerie that people who have heard it were terrified. Could it be a sign of an alien invasion?

Watch the video compilation of this strange sound from the sky:

As of now, there is no clear explanations as to how this trumpet-like sound has been generated from the sky. The million dollar question now is: Where does this sound come from?

One thing is for sure, this phenomenon is written in the Bible:

Jeremiah 25:31-35

Amplified Bible (AMP)
31 A noise will come even to the ends of the earth, for the Lord has a controversy and an indictment against the nations; He will enter into judgment with all mankind; as for the wicked, He will give them to the sword, says the Lord.
32 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, evil will go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirling tempest will rise from the uttermost parts of the earth.
33 And those slain by the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented or gathered or buried; their [dead bodies] shall be dung upon the ground.
34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry; and roll in ashes, you principal ones of the flock. For the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions have fully come, and you shall fall and be dashed into pieces like a choice vessel.
35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal ones of the flock any means of escape.

Joey Ayala's version of Lupang Hinirang is Illegal but Awesome

Republic Act No. 8491 is an act prescribing the code of the National Flag, Anthem, Motto, Coat of Arms and other heraldic items and devices of the Philippines. On Chapter II Section Number 37, it says:

The rendition of the National Anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.

The National Anthem has always been a part of our life from the first day of school until graduation and we must all know that any alteration in the lyrics and music of Lupang Hinirang is against the law. But how many times this law has been violated?

The netizens were abuzz lately when Joey Ayala, a Filipino singer and songwriter, has come up with his own version of Lupang Hinirang. Not only did he altered the musical arrangement but also some lyrics of the song including the correct pronunciation.

As much as I would like to judge Ayala for violating Seciton number 37 of Republic Act Number 8491, I was amused with his own rendition of Lupang Hinirang. He has also valid reasons why he created his own version and I so much agreed with him.

Check this video to find out about Joey Ayala's reasons for alteration and listen to his own rendition of Lupang Hinirang. I would say it is awesome.

Heartfelt Messages for Filipino People Affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda

Yolanda or also known as Super Typhoon Haiyan has largely devastated my dear country, Philippines.

It is so heart breaking to watch my fellow Filipinos struggling to survive the hiatus that this super typhoon has brought to some parts of the country like Tacloban and Leyte.

Looking at the brighter side of the story, the super typhoon Yolanda pushes the Filipino spirit beyond limitations that even readers of CNN article acknowledge the "indomitable spirit" of Filipino people.

Here is the uplifting message from one of the comments in article posted by CNN:

“Time to get to know the hardy Filipino people…unbelievably resilient, long-suffering, good-natured, uber friendly, loyal, ingenious, and a bunch of survivors.
At the end of the day, the Filipinos will just shake off the dirt from their clothes and thongs, and go about their business…and SMILE. They do not complain much, they will bear as long as they can.
Maybe this is why they were given the “privilege” of bearing the burden of the strongest typhoon ever recorded.”
Even the UFC fighter Alex "The Mauler" Gustaffson sent out his message to the victims.

He said:

"Just stay strong, keep your head up and I really hope it is not that bad, but stay strong"

Miss PH Universe 2013 Ariella Arida and 1st Runner Up Ms. Universe Janine Tugonon have also message to the Filipino. Watch this video:

And Korean artist Lee Min Hoo has a special message:

"I heard that there was great damage done by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. I hope everyone is safe now. Please don't lose faith. We're thinking of you from Korea."

It's so nice to know that we Filipino are not alone in facing this tragedy. It is not always about money and material things. Even words of encouragement can unload the burdens.

How to Fix Blank Black Screen Problem in ASUS Laptop?

I bought this Asus laptop and it's less than one month now. I just woke up one day, turned it on and found myself facing a black blank screen on the monitor. It could no longer load the operating system. I tried to turn it off, then turned it on again but it still could not boot the operating system.

If you encounter the same problem, do not panic for it can be resolved in less than 5 minutes. Here's how:

1. Make sure that laptop is at OFF state
2. Press the ON button
3. Hold it, do not release until it will load the operating system

That's it. If that did not resolve the issue, do this:

1. Remove the battery of your laptop
2. Press the ON button for about one minute
3. Connect to your adapter
4. Press ON button

I hope that would solve your problem.

Quotes Inspired from Candy Crush Saga

Everybody is going gaga over the Candy Crush application. Aside from the fun, we can also learn something "life-worthy" from Candy Crush. Here are some quotations that we can get from playing this game:

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step"

Candy Crush can be accomplished per level. The difficulty differs from one level to another. Before you can get into the ultimate level, you must go through level 1 first. One step at a time. Life is like that, take one step at a time. You could not reach your goal overnight, there are a lot of work to be done and that should always begin with one single step.

"The world will judge you not by the number of times you fall down but by the number of times you get up and walk again"

You have one more jelly to destroy but you have only one move left and there's no chance for you to clear it out. That's the obvious game over. Just because you weren't able to finish it well doesn't mean you stop there. There's always a "Play Again" option and you can always choose to get up and resume the game.

"Concision in style, precision in thought, decision in life"

However animated Candy Crush is, there is one thing about the game that we should learn by heart, it's decision. Life is all about decision, like the game, you must decide where to use your moves. Make sure you are not wasting a single move for useless actions. Before you decide think first because once you move, there's no turning back.

Top 5 Characters that Chilled Down My Spine

Horror movie is probably not my type of movie because I found it useless and non sense. But not all horror movies are totally lame. There are some well crafted horror films that give a chill down my spine. This is my list of nightmare horror characters.

Top 5: Chuckie from the movie Chuckie

Who can forget this ugly little killer doll? He is so creepy that everytime I see a doll, I remember the demon possessed doll called Chuckie.

Top 4: Sadako from the movie RING

A long haired woman with a vengeful spirit coming out of the well is probably an image you never want to remember. That is Sadako out there hunting you and your imagination.

Top 3: Black Eyed Kid from the movie The Black-Eyed Children

Kids could be cute and awesome, but if they look like unnerving whose eyes are solid black, I think I'll pass.

Top 2: Red Faced man from the movie Insidious

This character makes me close my window or one week. What if a red faced man like him appear in your window? I think I'll die.

Top 1: The Evil Dead

A remake of the 1980s movie The Evil Dead is set to be on theater this 2013, but the thriller is simply terrifying. Ugh, creepy.

The World's Famous Brothers

Isn't it cool to become famous together with your brother? We have several brother tandems that have been famous all over the world in different categories. Here is my list.

RELIGION: Cain and Abel

I think that the most famous brothers in the Bible is Cain and Abel.  Who could forget these first two sons of Adam and Eve according to the book of Genesis. They are brothers but they are completely opposite. Abel was a keeper of a sheep while Cain is a tiller of the ground. Competition arise between them and we know how Cain killed his brother Abel because of jealousy.

GAMES: Super Mario and Luigi

If you are a 90s kid, you probably encountered a classic game called Super Mario brothers using a so called "Family Computer". Mario and Luigi, the plumber brothers are the reason why I spent more hours in front of family computer than my books and notes. Until now, there are some digital version of Super Mario brothers game. But I still prefer the good old version.

MOVIE:  Thor and Loki

Ok fine, they are not really brothers because Loki is just an adopted son of Thor's father, but they treated him like real member of the family despite the fact that Loki is bearing the enemy's blood on his veins. We have been entertained by the rivalry of Thor and Loki, and that made them famous.

SCIENCE: Orville and Wilbur Wright

Who could forget the Wright Brothers? The inventors of the flying machine or what we call the airplanes. Opening the possibility for humans to fly would be enough credit for them to be famous.

ENTERTAINMENT:  Prince William and Harry

The Royal Brothers. To say that every girl in the world would surely want to marry any of them is an understatement. Well, aside from the looks, they got the wealth and the royal blood. Who wouldn't want that? huh?

There you go, the world's famous brothers. If I missed something, that means, they're not famous enough to be included on the list.

At Your Service!!!

Out of million jobs and opportunities in the world, I ended up in a customer service industry. I never dreamed to become a problem solver and a client appeaser before, but being on a first level career path and an inexperience oily faced fresh graduate, I have to take any chances to get a job regardless of whether it would fit my capabilities or not. I saw bait and I have to bite and I don’t care whether it will fill up my stomach or hook my throat. I am not saying I landed in this job because I have no choice, it’s just that competition nowadays is too stiff that I have to take whatever opportunities that will come on my way.

I never thought that I would be attached this much to this job. I don’t want to call it a calling or some sort of an expertise, but I guess I learned to love the job that much that what I considered then a nightmare has become a comfort zone to me. I am writing this to voice out my sentiments as a 4 years Technical Support. Yes, I lasted that long despite the toxic level that this job contains. But don’t worry, this is no toxic article. I would rather call it “lessons from sentiments” because here, I am going to let you see through the “pensieve” of a customer service personnel so that you would also understand us and maybe next time, you would treat us right. I am writing this because I am about to leave the job that I learned to love, the job that has become my bread and butter for the past four years.

Technical support, customer representative, help desk, concierge, etc. We come in different names, but one thing is common among us in the customer service industry is that, we are the FRONTLINERS. If in the battle, we are the soldiers in the front line protecting our base, and as we all know, we are prone to danger. Every single day at work, we are the ones who receive the complains, questions, insults and what not in behalf of the company.

Here are the things you need to know about us:

1. We are human

As much as we would like to agree that inconveniences may arise to some customers, please be reminded that we have also emotions. If you are irritated because of the glitches, bugs, defects and whatever imperfection you found about the product that we are defending, please don’t put it against us. We don’t take things personally because we know it’s our job to help you with your problems, but if you nag us because of our “incompetent” (according to you) product, it is tantamount to insulting the part of our personalities. We are not robots that we could just take all your bad mouthing and insults. There is one thing I learned about being a technical support, that is things can be easily resolved if we set aside emotional surges and rages. You talk, we listen. We talk, you listen. That’s a simple formula to get things resolved once and for all. No need to curse just to get us to listen to you. Just because you can say what you want and we can’t speak to you in that manner doesn’t mean you can curse us unlimited. Approach us and treat us as human and we will gladly help you out with your problems.

2. We don’t treat customer service as a job

Sometimes, we are being blamed because we are not doing our job properly in handling customer complaints. But there is one thing I would just like to say about this which I can’t say directly to customers, this is not simply a JOB. A customer service is a very sensitive aspect of a business. You must show your utmost care to the customers just as how nurses care their patients. If you are working in customer service for a long time, you would realize this is no longer a job, this is already a heroic stunt. You know when superman and batman and the rest of the justice league are out to save the world? That is what we are doing. We are on patrol to save businesses, to save people from frustrations and disappointments. But sometimes, even superman fails to save the victim from perilous danger. Customer service is not our job, it is our LIFE.

3. We make mistakes

Imperfection is inevitable, and yes, like you, we made mistakes. We value every task on our plate, but we are not exempted on the cliché “Nobody is perfect”. Sometimes we are too preoccupied or stressed or under pressure that we mishandled cases and issues. We understand if at this point you will scold at us and drag us to hell for not doing our job well, but we appeal a little bit of understanding from the bottom of your heart. One thing is for sure, for every mistake that we make, we learn from it.

Being a technical support has taught me a lot of things. The lessons I learned are not just limited to technical stuffs but also some lessons in life that I can live for. I became more careful in dealing with people because words are too powerful. I no longer rant when I am obliged to form a line just to be accommodated. I became more patient because I know how it feels to attend to multiple irate people. You can’t really understand this unless you experience it. I have my own share of curses and distastes from unhappy campers, and I’ll tell you, it’s not easy to hold grudges.

I once went to a bank, and you know how it works to deposit money, you need to fill up a deposit slip, get your number and wait for your turn. There are about ten people waiting before me so I patiently waited for my turn. I flipped my number card and I saw a hand writing at the back of the card which says “AMBAGAL NYO!!!!”. Well obviously, when you read it, the person who wrote it was not happy with the service of the bank. But hey, let’s look at the other side of the story. Maybe the process was not really that slow, it’s just that he or she maybe was just an impatient client.

I can’t stress more enough to tell you about us. You can see us everywhere you go and we are always ready to support you. I hope that next time you approach a customer service staff, you remember who we really are and treat us right. We may not deserve your appreciation but I am sure we deserve a little respect from you.

As I am going to retire on this profession, I will always be forever at your service.
